Adoptable Dogs

Van Zandt County Humane Society is a "No Kill" Shelter

Our medical procedures begin with heartworm testing for all canines over 10 months and leukemia testing for felines. All pets in our care are up to date on vaccinations and, if over 4 months old, have been spayed or neutered and given their rabies vaccinations, as well as heartworm prevention. A free spay/neuter certificate is offered at one of our participating clinics for all unaltered pets adopted.

State law requires any animal adopted from a shelter or rescue group be altered. If not altered at the time of adoption, a female will need to be spayed when she reaches 6 months and a male when he reaches 8 months. The Society recommends that all animals be altered at 4 months.

Thor is a Great Dane Mix. Born 2/1/13

Thor is 3 years old, housetrained and well behaved in the house.  He is very good with children and will not jump or knock over a small child.

He pulls on the leash but has a nice gait for someone who likes to jog on their walks.  He will crate but doesn't like that confinement.  He rides well in a vehicle.

His special needs issues are he doesn't like vet visits very well and may need to be muzzled.  He is aggressive to other animals and should be an only pet.  He shouldn't be trusted around cats either.

Thor is set in his ways and needs a firm hand in handling.  Training classes would be a recommendation for him.

Thor has been neutered, micro-chipped and is on heart worm preventative. He is up to date on his vaccinations.
